One of the biggest pet peeves about my life, is that of my nickname.


Mel.


For the longest time, people knew Mel was the shortened version of Melissa. Don't know why or how, they just knew. Growing into adulthood or whatever, people have started calling me by a name to which I don't belong.


Melanie is the number one assumption.


Melody is guessed frequently.


Melrose was really off base.


Melvin was guessed by a guy.


I've had friends who after knowing me years, ask me what my first name is. "What does Mel stand for again? Melanie, right?"


Wrong.


Sometimes I find it amusing, but more often than not, I get annoyed. Mel[issa].


I think someday I might just change it to save the energy of correcting people.


Do I look like a Melanie? =)
