Bread knife to the finger

Who would have thought I'd have two injury entries in one week?

Today, I bravely took a bread knife to my left index finger. There's really no point in putting a picture up because it's covered in 3 band aides. I was cutting a loaf of sourdough bread when the knife slid across the crust and sliced through my finger instead. It's pretty deep, but not deep enough for stitches. If I had gone ahead to the ER, all they would have done is butterflied it or glue it shut. Nothing that I couldn't do myself for free.

It hurts. I think I may have nicked the muscle, but who knows. A cut is a cut, and I'll live.

Tomorrow we're going camping for Memorial Day weekend. I have work early in the morning so hopefully I'll be home by noon or one-ish.

It's hard typing with these friggin bad aids on. =)

Drill bit to the hand.

Yesterday, Zach and I took off in separate ways. He went to his friend Clays to help out on a car. I went with my friend Lex to go shopping. Few hours later, Lex and I were in the Drive Thru at Starbucks when Zach called me. He sounded whiny, panicked and just not good. He told me he had cut his hand and needed me to come to him.

I don't know what it is about Zach and hurting himself, but he seems to transform back into a ten year old when he injures himself. He has no idea what to do, how to take care of it or keep a straight head even. Is that the way a lot of guys are?

So Lex drove me over and I booked it up to Clays apartment where Zach was. He had been drilling underneath Clays truck when the drill slipped. I guess it had enough time to flip over and the weight was great enough for it to stab him in the palm. It bled quite a bit but it didn't seem to be to bad. I cleaned it and tried to get as much dirt and grime out of it as I could before calling an advice nurse to see if he should get it sewn up.

Thankfully, the nurse said he most likely didn't need to. Just keep it washed out and clean and all that junk. She did suggest him getting a Tetanus shot, but I don't know how much those cost without health insurance.

I found out yesterday we don't qualify for any insurance help from the state. You either have to be having a baby, a single mother with a baby or a large family with no money. Wheres the sympathy for young adults who work and can't take enough classes?! I need to be a full time student to stay on my parents health insurance, but I can't afford to do that.

Oooh. It's exhausting being 21.

California is baking, dontcha know?

All weekend, it has been craaaazy hot. You would not believe it was May here. It's been over a hundred degrees for almost 3 days. Yesterday I spent all day at my friend Lex's house. She has a pool and we were in it for almost 8 hours. There was really no point in getting out. We jumped off the waterfall, gossiped and chatted all day, all while getting nice and crisp. I have a tan!! Yay!

Last night though was horrible. Swimming for 8 hours and climbing up a rock waterfall with muscles you haven't used in a quite awhile led to a painful evening. My left arm was killing me, my right arm was too, but not as bad as the left. Today I feel good, but there's a twinge of pain every so often. I need to get back to the gym. ASAP.

I hope you guys all enjoy the day, where ever you are. I'll be roasting in good ol' California.

This entry will definitely sound bratty.

I'm a bit peeved, so at this point, whatever. I'm a brat.

Boyfriend broke my phone. He fell on it on accident and crushed the screen. Sigh...

It's still usable, but I bought that stupid phone no more than 3 months ago, and its broken. I am pretty peeved because it happened in front of his friends and he kind of put on a show to make himself look cool and funny.

Me: You owe me a new phone, ya know.
Him: What?! No way.
Me: Zach, it's not funny. You need to replace it.
Him: It's not even that broken! You can still use it!
Me: That's not the point! YOU broke it!! The least you can do is say you'll replace it.
Him: No. It was an accident and you pushed me onto it.

Insert HUGE frustration grunt here.

If I had done the same to his phone, he would have demanded the same thing. You almost expect someone who breaks something of yours to fix it or replace it. It's common courtesy, right?

I'm sorry if this makes me look bad. I more upset that he made it sound like it was nothing and he didn't care that its broken. I decided to go home to just be alone and blow off some steam, so he's still out and about now. Hopefully he has some time to think about it.

Don't you hate it when you get your hopes up?

I had a job interview on Tuesday for a nanny position. It paid way more than what I make now, and it was more steady hours. I drove all the way to San Francisco to meet this woman, had a great interview and all that jazz. She told me she had another person after me she was going to interview, but she promised to call that night.

When she didn't, I kind of got the feeling I wasn't going to get it. She called tonight, and sure enough, I didn't.

I'm not really upset, just more confused. I gave her great references and she made it sound like she was really interested in hiring me. I told the people who I listed to expect a call, and they all said not to worry, they'd say great things. I called them all tonight, and she didn't call any of them. Ugh. It's frustrating.

Thankfully, I still have a job. In most ways, I'm happy I didn't get it because I absolutely adore the families I work for. They're great people and I'd do anything for them. Hopefully, I'll pick up a few more hours here and there so my bills can get paid and I'll be able to start building my savings back up.

Life is still good. Not cushy, but good =]

Oh my.

Yesterday was my little brothers big 18th birthday. Nothing really interesting happened all day, till about ten last night. My brothers friend, a girl, stopped by. At first I had no idea why, I thought she was there to say happy birthday or something.

Well, she was. But the real, real reason she was at my house was because her boyfriend decided to just kick her out of his car and leave her to walk home with no shoes or sweatshirt. When she was telling my the story, he was calling her over and over again. I told her not to worry, just let me talk to him. So, I called him back.

Needless to say, he was not thrilled I was calling and not his girlfriend. He tried to act all big and bad, cursing at me and screaming his pretty little head off. Like that was going to make me hand over the phone. I kept answering for maybe a half an hour.

He'd hang up and call back. I'd answer, he'd scream profanities and hang up. It was so funny. I'd just answer her phone and ask "Are you calm yet?" and this kid would lose it! I finally told him if he wanted to chat, meet me in front of my house. My friend Dorry always said to take your problems to the lawn and duke it out there. I thought, lets do that. I'll flag you down, whatever. I didn't really expect him to show up, but low and behold...

I just want to say this kid just looked like a douchebag. He walked up to me, no introduction of his name, and demanded to see his girlfriend. For me, that set the tone. I told him:

a.) whats your name

b.) you might talk to her after you and I share some words

c.) section B will be decided if and when if I see fit

Oh yeah. We shared some very pretty words. But I'll be damned if some 20 year old douchebag thinks its okay to just throw his girlfriend out on the curb, talk to a complete stranger the way he did and then think he's coming over to pick her up and not talk to me.

I guess I done my parent's proud. They (along with my brother and this girl) all stood in our front window and watched me tear this kid apart. He showed up all big and bad, but after hearing what I had to say, he wasn't as cocky. After a half an hour or so I went in and asked his girlfriend if she wanted to talk to him, so she went out. The walked across the street and talked for an hour and a half. I sat on the porch the entire time for a reason.

I was not going to let him be outside alone with her because she if significantly smaller than he is, and he made the mistake of telling me that he has to physically carry her to his car when they get in arguments. Sure enough, she turned to walk away from him and he shot up going after her. I started yelling at this kid telling him he was done, she walked away, he needed to leave. He made it halfway up my driveway before he saw me. He turned and left.

It was a very interesting night. Very interesting. I had never called someone out like that and invited them over to my house to chat it out, but I'm glad I did. It was kind of empowering.

I took it to the lawn. And won. Haha.

Yay!

I'm 21 now! Yay!

p.s. Thanks Donna for the birthday comment! It made me feel better =]

So..

Tomorrow is my birthday... sigh.

Nothing is really going to happen, I'm sure. Boyfriend for sure didn't plan anything and if he did, he must be really good at keeping a secret. I don't know. I always get a little depressed around my birthday. I always get the short end of the stick when it comes to it. No great surprise party, not much of anything.

Hopefully SOMETHING goes down, anything I hope. It'd be nice to get back what you give others on their birthdays.

9 hours and counting.
