Last night I was out with Zach, my best friend Nichol and her brother AJ (who is Zach's best friend). Weird how life works, right?
We were all out last night on our way to Tracy, which is about 20 miles from where we live. We were having a good time and joking around. Nichol lives in Colorado and AJ is in the Army and is stationed in Germany, so we hardly get to see them.
We were driving along and saw a fire in a field and as we got closer, we noticed it was a truck. The whole thing was engulfed in flames and was twisted up pretty bad. There was another person who stopped but wasn't doing much of anything. We stopped and saw a guy walking out of the field up to the road, and he was cut up pretty bad and was bleeding from the top of his head. We hurried over to him while Nichol called 911. The poor guy couldn't remember his name or what happened. We helped him walk a couple feet down the road to get as far away from the truck as we could. It was making popping sounds and Zach said it could blow up at any time.
We sat him in the backseat of my car and turned on the heater for him. It was freezing and windy. The ambulance and fire trucks didn't get there for 10 or so minutes.
While all this was happening and the man was getting put in the ambulance and all that, we noticed the first guy who had stopped, left. We couldn't tell the officer what happened, if there was another car involved, how he ended up where he did or if there was anyone else in the car.
If you witness an accident or even see it from a distance and you are the only one around, please please stay. You may be that persons only chance at survival. You can help answer all the questions. Last night I watched countless cars just drive by while four young adults had nothing to help this guy. Out of ten or so cars, ONE stopped. We kept trying to wave them down, but they kept driving.
It really makes me angry to think that people don't have the heart to stop and help someone who's life is in danger. This is the third accident I've stopped at to help. Two of which I watched happen. You might be somebodys only chance. I may not be good with blood or anything like that, but it's the principle of the situation.
Next time you see an accident with no emergancy services present yet, please stop and see if you can assist in any way. Do good for soembody. It makes you a better person.
